This weekend I had my off week from the Rituxan infusion, and thank God for that because we had a busy weekend. I got out more than I normally do because April was participating in graduation ceremonies. She completed her degree in December, but went to her department’s recognition as well as commencement today. It was a bit of an emotional experience to be that close to commencement, because I did not make it to mine last year. At the time I had just gotten out of the hospital and was having some radical breathing issues stemming from the infusion and some other stuff.
I did end up staying in my car to avoid the sun, but I was able to take April up there and just overall be in the environment. That meant a lot to me. But enough about me, this is really about this amazing girl that I love. She did amazing things to get where she is. As many nights as I spent in our study, libraries, couches etc. with this History and Biology show, I can’t even think of a better partner in life to get through what I did. She bit my head off sometimes when I pushed her to stay up just a bit later to finish a paper, or prep for a test, but the moments that I shared with her in December and this weekend were worth every scowl.
Seriously, look at that scowl
A team is absolutely only as strong as the weakest link. Oftentimes, I feel like I’m that weakest link, mainly because I just don’t feel as complete as I used to. I think that April believes she is the one that gains strength from me, but it is the other way around. She makes my link stronger through her intelligence, her smile and her compassion to be with a guy who has this crazy medical issue. Through infusions, hospital stays, ER runs and even just helping me off of the floor…she’s never, ever wavered. I don’t know how she does it.
She doesn’t know her own amazing ability, she’s so humble and so unsure of herself sometimes. But I’m aware of it and it inspires me to be stronger every single day. She has helped repair my broken link into something that resembles hope. I’m determined to match her strength, and take on this life adventure together.
P.S. We got a cake made of our American Eskimo, Lacy. She is delicious.
She is indeed beautiful, inside and out.
