Today I’m headed to KU Med for my first consult meeting concerning my upcoming surgery. But, before that could happen I was due for a rough day.
It turns out that when I was packing for the hotel to come to Kansas City I forgot perhaps the two most important things in my arsenal: my medicine box and my CPAP power cord.
I called and talked to three on-call specialists to ask what the plan was considering I would be missing medicine both at night and in the morning. One of my medications, Flecainide, is for SVT and the cardiologist was not alright with me missing it. A few phone calls later and I headed to a local pharmacy to grab couple of pills for night and morning to get me through.
After a while of relaxing back in my hotel room, I discovered that my CPAP power cord was not here. This is important because breathing is one of the biggest struggles this disorder presents me with. Without the CPAP mask, I choke and wake up very easily due to not being able to move air very well. At the very least, a bad night’s sleep was guaranteed.
Of course, the entire reason I had to come get a hotel anyways is because I am still badly suffering from travel anxiety. Whenever I have to go out of town, I have a hard time keeping my senses calm because even if I were doing nothing in my living room my pain, weakness and breathing are all over the place. If you are unable to breathe and find yourself in a place where you can’t immediately find help, like say a highway or a plane…well… you can imagine the snowball effect of not being able to breathe coupled with not being to get help to breathe.
Anyways, today is a new day and I look forward to writing about more positive news after this appointment.
Hump day is gone, finish strong!
