Scanning For Surgery

Today I had a CT scan of my abdomen, which is a terrible experience every single time. The techs use an IV dye for illumination, and I get the worst feeling of nausea whenever they push it through. They even pre-medicated me today and still I nearly ruined their machine with vomit. Anyways, the CT scan was to check my adrenal glands for benign growths that could be causing me to have a condition called hyperaldosteronism. Since my condition and medication cause my immune system to be suppressed, the usual treatment of surgery to remove one of the glands is something that my nephrologist would like to avoid if possible. Obviously that process would be difficult on my body, but we will see once we get the results.

In happier news, the medication that my nephrologist started me on in order to battle my low potassium count is apparently working, as I am back at a healthy 4.1! Normal is between 3.5 and 5.2, so that it appears that is on the way to not needing to be worried about anymore.

After running through the CT scan and an appointment with my fantastic therapist, I made it back home for a much needed nap. Unfortunately the heat got to me pretty badly, although I’m barely outside. That is ridiculous, I need to start migrating in the summer.

One more thing. I am working with the hospital in order to see if I qualify for an inpatient rehabilitation program. I have started and stopped physical or pulmonary rehab several times, but the problem with these sessions is that even if I were to go for an hour twice a week, by the time I get back in for the second time that week I’m already back to square one. It would benefit me to be able to jumpstart in an intensive program for several hours a day, but it is not safe for me to do that on my own because of the damage to my body. I am waiting to hear if I fit the criteria, which seems to be very specific. If not, I will still look for other ways to amp up my rehab and improve my functionality.

In the meantime, the sun is going down and I am headed to the movies with my beautiful fiancé :p

Have a great weekend.
