One of the many specialists that I see from week to week is a cognitive therapist, basically to make sure that my mental health stays up to snuff. As you can imagine, I have some pretty dark days emotionally and so these therapy sessions have been a great way to release some of that energy. She has done a great job of making sure that I understand these emotions are normal, considering what happened. I am only 28, and at my age most people still have their sense of bodily invincibility, and they gradually lose it over time. My invincibility was ripped away over a couple of weeks, and there was nothing I could do about it. These sessions are invaluable to me, being able to find perspective in my life and make sure that I leave with positive energy.
It is warm outside, as I’m sure you midwesterners are aware. Part of my disease deals with skin damage, accelerated by the sun. Because of this I try to keep my skin protected when I have to go outside. I have these UV sleeves and a hat that I wear in order to make it from car to building and building to car. Typically I can be in the sun for 10-15 minutes before I start feeling the effects, but this summer it has been happening much quicker unfortunately.
That is just the story of summer though. If you ever want to find winter temperatures in August, my house is the destination.
Happy Thursday!
